Balazs Simonyi (1980) graduated from literature and film art at the ELTE University Budapest and is currently doing his PhD in art history there. He is working as a freelancer photographer, journalist and producer-director.
He is the director of ULTRA (2017), the creative documentary about Spartathlon and its runners.
His shortfilms and docus appeared at hundreds of festivals, from Cannes (Semaine de la Critique) and Karlovy Vary to Oscar-nominator American-festivals (Aspen, Seattle, Vancouver), and famous events like Clermont-Ferrand, Warsaw, Brest, Brussels, Guanajuato, Sapporo, Drama, Cork. He won several prizes, like CamerImage, Audience Award at Asiana Film Festival and the French Cinema Distributors’ (GRAC) prize. His films were broadcasted in French and Japanese cinemas and TVs, and were sold to US territories.
