 GREEK ATHLETES HIGHLY EXCELLED DURING THE “29^TH SPARTATHLON”. 19 OF THE 37 THAT STARTED, CROSSED THE FINISH LINE.

 FOREIGNERS SET A DATE FOR 2012 WHEN SPARTATHLON WILL CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY SINCE THE REVIVAL OF PHEIDIPPIDES ACHIEVEMENT.

The performance of Greek athletes, which participated in the 29^th international ultra-distance race “SPARTATHLON”, was impressive. The race took place along the route Athens-Sparta (a 246 klm distance), with the participation of 285 athletes from 39 countries.

More specifically 37 greeks raced; 19 men and both of the women that started, crossed the finished line, which is a percentage over 60% for such a difficult race.

The dutch Jan Albert Lantink has taken the lead from the start at the 29th international ultra-marathon race “SPARTATHLON 2O11”, that begun at 7 o’clock this morning from the Acropolis with the participation of 285 athletes from 39 countries. The race takes place along the 246 km long route from Athens to Sparta.

350 men and women will participate in this year’s race. THE INTERNATIONAL SPARTATHLON ASSOCIATION is organizing once again this year the international ultra-distance race “Spartathlon 2011”.

This year’s 29th Spartathlon organization will be held on September 30th and October 1st 2011 under the exclusive donation of “Stavros Niarchos Foundation”, which will last for three years. The route Athens- Sparta, a distance of 246 klm, will be covered by the participants within a 36 hours timeframe.
