Spartathlon meets the Greek Guiding Association!

Spartathlon meets the Greek Guiding Association!

by Spartathlon / Friday, 05 September 2025 / Published in Press Release

A partnership full of smiles, solidarity, and new strengths

We are delighted to announce the new collaboration of the International Spartathlon Race with the Greek Guiding Association (S.E.O.).

Guiding, a global movement with an educational character, addresses children and young people, promoting the values of solidarity, respect, and cooperation — values that perfectly align with the spirit of the SPARTATHLON. It is “the world’s largest family,” present in 90 cities across Greece, 150 countries worldwide, and with over 10,000,000 members around the globe.

What this partnership brings

Strengthening volunteerism: Guides will voluntarily offer their help at checkpoints along the route, enhancing support for athletes and their companions.

Spreading values: Guiding brings the power of solidarity and respect, core values of the SPARTATHLON.

Youthful energy: Young people will actively participate, bringing freshness and creativity to the event.

The SPARTATHLON Organizing Committee warmly welcomes this collaboration, confident that the presence of S.E.O. will significantly enrich the experience of runners, companions, and all those who take part in this unique event.

Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.

Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths, crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
