18 Greek Female Athletes to Line Up at the Start on September 27
The 43rd SPARTATHLON under the Auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Ministry of National Defence
Although we have entered the summer season and most people are thinking about their holiday destinations, the members of the International Spartathlon Association are in full readiness. Only 100 days remain until the morning of September 27th, when over 400 athletes will gather at the starting line to run the legendary 245km route, retracing the footsteps of the ancient hemerodromos Pheidippides.
SPARTATHLON 2025 under the Auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee
With great emotion and pride, the International Spartathlon Association recently announced that SPARTATHLON 2025 will be held under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee. This is a historic distinction that highlights the enduring connection of the race to the values of Olympism. The HOC’s recognition affirms the symbolic and cultural significance of SPARTATHLON as a global celebration of athleticism, peace, friendship, and solidarity.
This collaboration further enhances the race’s unique identity and strengthens its global appeal. SPARTATHLON is not merely an ultramarathon—it is a symbol of courage, belief in human potential, and the relentless pursuit of the impossible.
As organizers, we remain steadfastly committed to promoting Olympic values and highlighting sport as a bridge that connects people and cultures around the world.

18 Greek Women Athletes at the Start of SPARTATHLON 2025
In alignment with our goal to strengthen female participation in this historic ultrarunning event, the Board of the Spartathlon has made the bold decision to admit all 18 Greek female athletes from the waiting list directly into the race.
This move aims to encourage more Greek women to take part in one of the world’s most demanding and prestigious ultramarathons, while acknowledging their growing presence and impressive performances in the field of ultra-distance running.
SPARTATHLON 2025 Receives the IAU Golden Label
SPARTATHLON 2025 has been awarded the prestigious “IAU Golden Label” by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), under the patronage of World Athletics (formerly IAAF).
This honor represents the highest recognition for the event and the International Spartathlon Association, confirming the race’s exceptional quality, organization, and global standing. It solidifies SPARTATHLON’s position among the world’s top ultrarunning events and further promotes its values and historic legacy.

Official Recognition and Oversight
The 43rd SPARTATHLON will take place under the auspices of the Ministries of National Defence and Tourism and under the direct supervision and approval of the IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners). The historic 245km ultramarathon will be held on September 27–28, 2025, with over 400 athletes participating from 55 countries around the globe.
