Following the resignation of Kostis Papadimitriou from the duties of the president, the new composition of the Board of Directors. is the following:

PRESIDENT: Vangelis Polymeris

VICE PRESIDENT – HOTEL SUPERVISOR: Panagiotis Alikaniotis

GENERAL SECRETARY: Anastasia Delopoulou

TREASURER: Ekaterini Skenderi

DEPUTY TREASURER: Matina Sgouropoulou

SUPPLY MANAGER: Vasilis Dimitropoulos

MATERIAL SUPERVISOR: Ioannis Arfanis

MEMBERS:

George Kalantzakos

After the first meeting of the new Board of Directors the President Kostis Papadimitriou made the following laconic statement:

 Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.

Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths, crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
