On 09/03/2022, the draw of the athletes for the participation in the SPARTATHLON 2023 race took place in the wonderfull hall of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Athens, “MELINA”.
Athletes and interested Greeks and foreigners attended the draw live and watched the process.
A total of 690 athletes from almost 50 countries applied.

Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.
Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths, crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
