I have been running for 30 years but only took up the ultra distances 6 years ago. All of the events completed so far with no DNFs have been close to my heart as i am always keen to have mental buy-in to an event - why run so far and not be bought into the event? The Pheidippides journey is my ultimate bucket list event as this represents the best ever ultra journey for the ultimate cause from 2500 years ago - the ultimate and the original ultra. To run in his footsteps and kiss his feet at the monument at then end is my ultimate dream as a keen and deeply connected ultra runner. I have read many books on other peoples journey at the Spartathlon and the love and respect they get from the Greek people and want to now make my own journey supported by this great nation.

 Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.

Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths, crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
