My name is Marcel (38) and I am from the green heart of Germany. I am happily married to my wife Lena since 2024 and we live and work in our beloved region of Thuringia. I have been passionate about running for many years and really enjoy racking up the miles alone, with my wife, family or friends. For me it is all about having a good time! I am tough and mentally strong and can adapt very well to long distances and draw the positives from difficult phases. True to the motto, run as long as you can and walk until you can run again. Now I would like to fulfill my dream of running from Athens to Sparta in Greece.

 Spartathlon revives the footsteps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long distance runner, who in 490 BC, before the battle of Marathon, was sent to Sparta to seek help in the war between the Greeks and the Persians.

Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths, crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
